KANSAS CITY, MO - I think its fair to say that the face of virtual airlines and flight simulator has changed significantly in MetroAir's 12 year life. It is important for virtual airlines like ourselves to always try and keep up with the current flight simulator trends whilst also trying to keep all our pilots happy. The last 6 months have been difficult for MetroAir and I am sure you, the pilots have noticed. After a series of executive and staff meetings over the last week we have decided to implement a number of changes at the airline which you will start to see being rolled out in the next few weeks.
I am sure some of you will remember taking part in a survey which we carried out at the end of last year. We wanted to thank all of the pilots who took part in this survey, which really helped us get an idea about how we as an airline are performing and get your ideas about what you'd like to see. It is impossible to always please everyone but with our ethos of 'Realistic. Innovative. Professional' we aim to strike a 'Happy medium'.
It was clear from the results that on the whole you are happy with our continued commitment to providing a realistic virtual airline experience.
So now to talk about the changes that I mentioned above...Some of these changes might seem 'radical' or unusual but we are putting them in place in order to improve your virtual airline experience and the changes will put YOU at the center of all we are doing. The first of these changes have already been put into effect...
Social Media: We are going to be utilizing our Facebook and Twitter pages to promote the airline to the wider world and to try and increase our pilot membership. You will see Pilot screenshots posted as well as information about news, competitions and upcoming events.
Communication: We know that from time to time you need to get in touch with us via our Contact page and unfortunately our responses to these messages have been less than satisfactory - Well a new behind the scenes process has been put into place which should now ensure that all of your messages are dealt with swiftly and accurately.
The following changes will be put into effect from May 1st:
Charters: It is with regret that we will be closing our Charter department completely. It has always been very difficult to keep this department up to date. A lot of work has been involved in keeping it going and due to a number of failures we feel that we need to close it and re-evaluate its future. All current 'Build a Charter' request will be honored and activated.
Hubs: From May 1st we will be closing one of our pilot bases, Dallas has been chosen to be temporarily closed. Its important to highlight that the hub will still exist in terms of all of the routes currently offered but will no longer be a base for pilots or a hub manager. The reason for this is that its not viable for us to maintain 3 bases when our roster is not large enough. It will also enable us to re-distribute our resources else where. Pilots at DFW will be given all the details regarding this closure very soon.
Hub Competition: Some of you may remember the days of hub competitions, some of you may even remember all the fun, camaraderie and 'banter' that used to accompany these competitions to gain the famous 'MetroAir Paddle'. Well May 1st will be the first competition...East v West! LAX and BOS will compete to win...watch out for more details about this which will be communicated very soon.
Fleet: One of the results which became apparent during the pilot survey was that the A330-300 was the least popular aircraft. This project was introduced when Project Airbus were due to release a new model but sadly this didn't happen and we were left with no payware and a terrible freeware. From July 1st all 8 A333s will have been removed from the fleet and their routes re-distributed to other aircraft. I can also confirm to you that a NEW aircraft will be introduced into the fleet by the end of the year...for now we will keep the details about it secret for just a little longer while we finalize all the details.
Downloads/Paints: We are also aware of a number of issues with our download center and some of the installers...we are now going to sort this out and re-organize all of the aircraft, installers & paints.
Events: We are going to be introducing a new regular event schedule which we hope to roll out in the next few months.
I am sorry that this post is so long but we wanted to give you all full details about the upcoming changes. We also wanted to let you know that we have listened to your comments and suggestions from the survey and are now acting upon them. This is an exciting time for MetroAir and the beginning of a new chapter. Please help us make Metro great again by getting involved in the Forums, Twitter, Facebook and Teamspeak.
